Russell Scott Boushie Wagner, known affectionately as "Bush," peacefully passed away on June 26, 2024. He was born on April 27, 1956, in Browning, MT, and spent his formative years in East Glacier Park and Saint Mary's. He was the beloved son of Hugo Johnson and Melvina "Bing" Boushie - Johnson.
Bush graduated from Browning High School and went on to lead a rich and fulfilling life. On Christmas Day in 1980, he married the love of his life, Nita Matt, whom he met at Fire Lake. They shared 44 wonderful years together, residing primarily at Sweet Pine Ranch after initially spending time at Fire Lake.
Throughout his 50-year career, Bush excelled as a heavy equipment operator in road construction, alongside pursuing his passions as a horseman, cowboy, and rancher. He garnered numerous awards and certificates for his skills in construction and rodeo, reflecting his dedication and expertise.
Beyond work, Bush was deeply involved in his community as a rodeo producer and enthusiast. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, trapping, and riding horseback in the mountains. He was particularly fond of organizing rodeos at Sweet Pine Ranch, where he delighted in riding bucking horses and competing in steer wrestling.
Bush is survived by his loving spouse, Nita Matt of Browning, MT; his father, Hugo Johnson; his children, Joe Matt, Truman Matt-Wagner, Luke Matt-Wagner, Maria Bell, Sierra Heptner, and Lyndee Matt; his sisters Roxanne Johnson and Ronda Boushie; his brothers Pat Boushie, Gary Johnson, Snicky Johnson, and Ronnie Johnson; as well as 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and daughters-in-law, all of whom he cherished deeply.
Bush was preceded in death by his grandparents Granny & Ed Boushie and his mother Melvina "Bing" Johnson.
His favorite childhood memories were spent with his grandpa Ed Boushie, living by horse wagon, hunting, fishing, and gathering wood. He loved to reminisce about his days on Boushie Hill in East Glacier.
Bush will be remembered for his hard work, kind soul, and profound love for his family. His legacy of kindness and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Wake will be held June 28, 2024, and service will be July 1, 2024, at 11 am, both events will occur at the Matt-Wagner Ranch.
Rest in peace, Bush. You will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
